MARGARETVILLE - The Delaware County Republican Committee celebrated its annual recognition of outstanding service and dedication, naming Beverly J. Shields as 2024 Republican of the Year. Shields is a lifelong resident of Delaware County and a graduate of Downsville Central School and Thomas Edison College. Her career has spanned various roles from driving school buses to managing the billing department at Foote and Burlingame.
For the last 30 years, she has served as Delaware County Treasurer, and for 10 of those years, also led the Delaware County IT department.
Shields’ community service includes a church board member, Sunday school teacher, and treasurer at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Downsville, where she has been a member for 50 years. She has also worked with the Downsville Friends and Neighbors 4-H Club and as a foster parent.
Shields has served in the Colchester Republican Club for 34 years and the county committee for 32 years. She has also played significant roles as a state committee woman and on the county executive committee.
