21st Annual Spring Garden Day, “2020 Garden Vision”

Posted

Stone Ridge, NY – See your garden with "2020 Garden Vision" at Garden Day, presented by Master Gardeners from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County (CCEUC). This day-long event welcomes gardeners of all backgrounds and abilities to be inspired by Dr. Margaret Ronsheim, the keynote who is a Professor of Biology at Vassar College; join classes and demonstrations; shop for seeds and plants with vendors and sponsors; and, talk with fellow gardeners from the Hudson Valley. This event will be held Saturday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at SUNY Ulster Community College Campus, 491 Cottekill Road, Stone Ridge.

Garden Day has something for everyone, from vegetables to pollinator meadows to garden design with annual and perennials. One topic that remains popular each year is "practical matters." Two special classes this year cover tools and tips and time-saving advice to help transform your 2020 Garden Vision into reality.

In "Tips, Tricks and Favorite Tools from Master Gardeners," Diane Goetz and Kim Bissell build on their popular 2018 Garden Day course with scores of new tricks to help you save time and money, turn household items into tools and aids, find easy ways to start seeds, control weeds and pests, fill containers, compost, and get the most from plantings. In 2020, they have added "favorite tools" to their class.

Master Gardener Elisa Amster Ross shares her time-management and garden expertise in "Enjoying Your Garden and Your Weekend." Aimed at gardeners-on-the-go (that's everybody, right?), this class will cover what to plant, where to plant and most importantly, how to plant. This is a must-do class if you have limited time to spend in your garden and want to skip the trials and errors of planting and still enjoy some of your weekend.

The most difficult part of Garden Day is deciding which of the 16 classes to attend! Pre-registration is highly recommended as classes fill up fast.  To obtain a list of all the classes and a registration form go to ulster.cce.cornell.edu/gardenday2020.  The cost for the day is $50 in advance; $55 at the door.  A catered lunch is available and must be purchased upon registering, or you can bring your own.
